It's the 1st December and the day when many of us open the first door or window on our advent calendars in the countdown for Christmas.
However, many people cannot afford to eat or heat their homes properly, and with 1 in 200 people now classed as homeless, too many people do not have their own front door to open.
Between 1st April 2016 and 31st March 2017, The Trussell Trust’s Foodbank Network provided 1,182,954 three-day emergency food supplies to people in crisis compared to 1,109,309 in 2015-16. Of this number, 436,938 went to children.

Throughout the year and particularly in the run up to Christmas we have always supported our local food banks and Trussell Trust not just in their collection and distribution of food but also their campaigning to raise awareness.
This year we want to do a bit more. We were inspired by the #reverseadventcalendar and the idea of collecting food and items each day in the lead up to Christmas. But, we also thought it would be a great opportunity to raise awareness and engage with our customers. We have created the LYHA festive calendar for our customers, where every working day until Christmas a door will open to reveal something informative, interesting or festive. There will also be competitions for customers to take part in.
