Leeds & Yorkshire Housing celebrates handing over the keys to new affordable homes

Leeds & Yorkshire Housing Association (LYHA) is delighted to be handing over the keys to 12 new-build apartments in Leeds, just in time for Christmas.

The beautifully designed homes have been built by Redrow and are situated on the popular new ‘Hawthorns’ estate in Whinmoor, Leeds. The affordable housing, managed by LYHA, comprises three one-bed and nine two-bed apartments with gardens, parking and lots of open, green space outside. The ground-floor apartments also have walk-in showers and there is lift access to the first and second floors.

The build has taken 15 months to complete (slightly delayed due to COVID) and we are delighted with the finished homes.  Joanna Chambers, Director of Assets and Growth at LYHA, comments: “Redrow approached LYHA when they were in the planning stages and we discussed the requirements for affordable homes in the area. I am excited now to see the completion of these attractive, new apartments and to be handing over the keys to the new residents.

“All the homes have been built to meet high energy efficiency standards (EPC B) making them affordable to run and each flat has access to their own electric charging point for an electric vehicle. They are also very well located just off the Leeds outer ring-road and close to local amenities, yet with easy access to open countryside nearby.”

John Handley, Managing Director of Redrow Yorkshire said: “It’s great news to hear that all 12 of the apartments are now occupied. These homes are high quality whilst also being affordable and are located within a brand new neighbourhood, where we have also built a variety of two, three and four-bedroom homes.

“Redrow always strives to create thriving communities for all ages and the fact that these apartments were available to single people/ couples over the age of 55 means that The Hawthorns offers specialist housing to people who want to be a part of a wider community.”
