Taking in a lodger
If you wish to take in a lodger, partner or friend, you will need to ask our permission. You will need to provide us with their name, age and gender, together with information about what accommodation they will occupy, so that we can run the necessary checks. You will only be granted permission (in writing) if you are on an assured, non-shorthold tenancy. The agreement will be on the condition that any reasonable conditions are complied with and you do not exceed the maximum occupancy for the property.
If you currently receive any benefits, you will also need to contact your local council benefits and welfare service, as taking in a lodger may affect the amount you receive.
Please note that LYHA will not grant permission for residents on shorthold tenancies (including fixed term and probationary tenancies).
A copy of our full policy regarding taking in lodgers is available on request.
